Merlins, in the beginning

The company originated in Wareham, North Dorset, when Director Chef Dave J Brown moved from his Catering Manager position over to owner.

Right from the start, it was all about concentrating on larger scale catering, for parties, weddings and corporate events in various locations, this is where Director Dave's strengths lie.  Years of training and expertise in the catering and hospitality industry afforded the background knowledge and skill level to forge a successful company.

Like any new business, making that initial impression was high on the agenda, but we almost didn't have enough time, we were so busy!  We concentrated on tasty food, plentiful and attractive and served with a smile.  Nothing much has changed and we have remained true to our beliefs in sourcing fine local produce, both free-range and organic wherever possible.

Merlins Growth

Our reputation goes before us for constantly delivering quality cuisine and we became preferred caterers for various venues throughout Dorset and Hampshire.  Merlins succeeded in becoming sole and exclusive caterers for Parley Manor in 2009, until present day and all the while growing in popularity amongst yet more wedding and event venues.

With our bread nicely buttered, we never want to spread ourselves too thin and so we find that we do, on occasion, regret our catering services to new clients where we already have confirmed bookings in place.  We will only take on as much as we can chew, as we know you will want the very best for your event and our reputation is at stake.  By booking Merlins you can be assured that you have secured the services of a busy and extremely popular caterer.

It has to be ethical and local all the way, this is where our heart lies.

With the best of ingredients we believe we bring you the best in taste.  Ingredients are from sustainable sources and as local as possible to reduce our food miles.

All our free-range meat is supplied by Ian at Oakley butchers in Wimborne, one of only a handful of butchers accredited by the Devon Red Breeders society.  Ian ensures that all of the farmers are members of the Countryside Stewardship, who promote wildlife, hedgerows and wild flowers.

Our free-range ‘happy pigs’ hail from Sturminster Newton and just over five miles away in Canford Magna, our free-range grass-fed lambs graze.  They enjoy a quality diet without antibiotics and growth promoters and we believe you will notice the difference.

Our stylish cheeseboard selections are prepared with only the finest local cheeses and every egg we use is free-range from Neil, our local dairy food distributor at Wrights Dairies.
